Wicked Cuts

Logo Design & Branding
Logo design and brand guidelines for ‘Wicked Cuts’. A horror themed barber shop in London. The logo combines an antique script font with roughened edges to evoke an 18th-19th century aesthetic. Inspired by classic horror films and musicals, the logo aims to offer a cinematic experience. A brand guideline ensures consistent use of the logo, detailing colour, spacing, sizing, and placement.

Initial Sketches

I started the project by selecting scissors as my object. I sketched various simple icon variations to represent them, then used Illustrator to refine the design and ensure it could be resized without losing quality.

Brand Ideating

After creating my icons in Illustrator, I brainstormed potential industries that use scissors. Inspired by horror films, especially Sweeney Todd, I decided on a barber theme with a horror twist. I named the company "Wicked Cuts" and searched for typefaces on Adobe Fonts that matched the brand’s tone.

Logo Iterations

I then used InDesign to type out the name and paired it with different icons to find the best combination.

Refinement

Through multiple iterations, I selected a logo to refine.

I applied the Roughen texture to the icon to better match the typeface.

Since the chosen typeface was a bit hard to read, I adjusted its points in Illustrator to improve legibility.
